Power Poppy ~ Bittersweet Wreath

Hello Friends! Can you believe it's the 25th of October already?! Well, since this is a "5", I've got a remixed digi set to share. This one is perfect for Thanksgiving cards, which is what it was intended for but, I think with a little imagination and creativity, this beauty can be used year round. Take a look at Bittersweet Wreath.

This set includes two lovely sentiments and one beautifully illustrated wreath made of bittersweet vines. I like the charming simplicity of this set. And even though I had a few ideas for it, I decided to treat it just as it is and created a simply charming card. Please click on the pictures to enlarge them.

I wanted to capture the warmth of the season and I wanted to accentuate the colors of the bittersweet berries. So, I started off by re-coloring the image and the sentiment in a Sepia tone. I wanted the vines to be brown, not black. Then, I printed it off onto a piece of ivory card stock and colored it with Copic markers. The berries are super bitty and didn't take much time to color. Although it may not show up well in the picture, I did use two colors of red on them. After the coloring was finished, I inked the edges with Distress Ink and gave the focal panel a generous spritzing with my homemade shimmer spray. Next I tied on a raffia knot. There's just something about raffia on Autumn cards that makes me smile! I was going to use ribbon here but, decided that the raffia gave it a little extra something without taking the focus off of the wreath and sentiment. I adhered the focal panel onto a Cajun Craze card base, leaving a bit of the card stock peeking out from the sides. To finish it off, I added Clear Wink of Stella and Crystal Effects to the berries. The WoS added a little more sparkle and the Crystal Effects added shine and a bit of dimension.

This card was super easy to make. I think it would look lovely un-colored, too, which would make it even faster to mass produce.

That's it for me today. Please take a moment to buzz by the Power Poppy blog because my teammies have created some VERY beautiful cards to share with you.

Thank you for stopping by! I hope your Tuesday is terrific!

Blessings~

Truly beautiful card, Barb! Wow! I agree the raffia adds just the right touch of texture and interest without taking focus off the wreath. You are so good at what you do!! Hugs! :)
