She Wanted a Scarf.

I taught myself to crochet when I was 8 years old, so it comes as no surprise to my family and friends when they receive a crocheted gift from me. That said...remember a few days ago was my Mum's birthday. Mum has lots of collections and can always put my handmade doilies to good use. So I made these for her birthday.

I love doing 'small work'. Things that are intricate and delicate. The top photo is Filet crochet and is made with cotton thread, using a fine crochet hook. The peach doily is made with the same materials, but without all of the detailed work of creating a pattern. To see the detail, click on the images to enlarge them.

Recently, I have been teaching myself to knit with the assistance of my very patient friend, Nona. I have only just semi-mastered the basic knitting techniques and have not even attempted my first project yet. That is...until now. When I spoke with Mum on the phone, she hinted several times about a knitted scarf. Not crocheted doilies. She wanted a scarf. Hmmm...sooo...guess what I've been doing this weekend? Yep. I started my first knitting project and I'm making a scarf.

Thanks for the visit. I hope you are having a fabulous weekend!

Oh SO pretty Barb! Thanks so much for sharing! I've never done Filet crochet. It looks like it's double crochets. Is that right? Whatever, it's gorgeous, as is your peach doily.

And I have to admit to giggling when your mom told you she wanted a scarf. And am overjoyed that you are attempting your first knitted project. How wonderful that Nona has been helping you.

Do you have a Joann's near you? They have classes and I believe a group called the Skein Gang that meets. Maybe if you need some one on one help, you could check that out? Wish I was closer to help you, too!

Wow, Barb!!! First Jeanne, and now you! Both of these doilies are just beautiful!! I've not seen one like the Filet -- looks even more complicated the the other type (and that looks plenty complicated!). What a blessing you must be to your mum...and it's obvious she's very special to you as well! Looking forward to seeing your first knitted creation! tfs

I'm so excited that you are working on a scarf! Please let me know if there's anything else I can help with.

I can't wait to see your first finished project!
