Birthday Poppies

Hello Friends! I have another 'homework' assignment to share with you. Our next lesson focused on stamping on patterned paper. This is something I do quite often, because I like to paper piece.

Jennifer McGuire taught us a really nifty technique to do with patterned paper and background stamps. I do not own any background stamps, so I was not able to share that with you today. But, I have one on my Wish List, so we will re-visit this again later. Jennifer Rzasa, showed us a technique to create a lovely paper pieced flower. And that is where I drew my inspiration for today's card.

I created a clean and simple, paper pieced card. And I decided that I would use these class assignments to re-stock my birthday card stash. So I have another birthday card for you.

As I said, paper piecing is not new to me. But, what I did differently was adhere the fussy cut pieces with dimensional adhesive. I fussy cut the buds and blooms. The buds are glued flat down on the stamped image, the buds are popped up. It's a really nice effect. The main thing with paper piecing, is to keep in mind the scale of the image and the scale of the pattern in the paper you wish to use. Imagine if I had stamped those delicate poppies on bold stripes or big polka dots...the lines in the poppies would get lost and the image wouldn't look very nice. Instead, I chose a tiny flower and vine pattern that lets the beauty of the stamp shine thru, while giving it texture and visual interest. I added a few pearls to the centers of some of the poppies and finished the card off with a sentiment strip, that I cut into a fish tale...still working on perfecting that little technique. *wink* Finally, everything got a teensy spritz of shimmer spray.

That's it for today. Thank you for dropping in!

Blessings~

Beautiful card, Barb! I don't stamp on pattern paper mainly because I never think to do it! LOL I really like your flowers. I can see where the pattern can add its own texture and visual interest to the card. I also like how the buds are flat and the blossoms are popped up. It sounds like you are learning some neat tips and tricks. Excellent!

Stamping on the patterned paper created some very pretty flowers! Your card is gorgeous :) I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with a background stamp.
