Everything's Coming Up Roses!

Hello friends! Today is my first Instant Gardener post for Power Poppy! And I am sooo excited to share this beautiful digital image with you. It's called Everything's Rosy and I think it's just perfect. The set includes a gorgeous display of roses and two sentiments.

Excuse me while I gush over these roses! Oh my word! The blooms are so full and lush, I can practically smell them. And look at that adorable teacup and saucer! You all know that I'm a teacup girl! Teacups and roses...Marcella created a very sweet vignette with this one. Here is the card I created to share with you...

I printed the image onto a piece of Bristol paper, that I die cut with a Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle die. I printed in 'fast draft' quality because I planned to watercolor. Next, I rubbed over the image several times with a kneaded eraser to remove any excess ink. Then, I gave it a blast with my heat tool and let it cool. Finally, it was ready to watercolor! Bristol is not watercolor paper, so I used a damp brush for my watercoloring. I used a combination of Distress Inks and Distress Markers. There are many videos on YouTube that demonstrate how to watercolor with inks and markers and I encourage you to view them. My technique is very simple and it's what works best for me. Using the brush tip of a marker, I add a bit of color onto the image where I want the darkest color(shading) to be and then, using a damp brush, I pull some of the color into the white area. Then, when the area is completely dry, I go back to the dark area and using the fine tip of the marker, I add a little more color and soften it with the brush. After my focal panel was dry, I added Crystal Effects to the mug and tea cup and saucer. To finish my focal panel, I die cut a tag shape, gold embossed the 'sweet friend' greeting and tied it onto an organdy ribbon bow with gold thread. Then, I mounted it onto a piece of craft foam and adhered it to my card base.

As I mentioned, the set includes two sentiments. I used one on the inside of my card...

"Hope everything's rosy with you!" Isn't is cute?! It's the perfect greeting for this image, right?! For continuity, I added a strip of the same striped paper I used on the front of the card. I just die cut it with the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle die and glued it down. And that is all there was to it! Beautiful image, super fun to color and don't be surprised if you see it again really soon done up in a different colorway!

My teammates have some awesome awesomeness to share with you, so please buzz by each of their blogs and leave them some love. I know you will be inspired! Then, visit the Power Poppy blog to see what Marcella is up to...it's always something good!

Your watercoloring is so lovely on this, Barb. Amazing results without watercolor paper. Love the gloss on the cups and the gold embossed sentiment. So pretty! I appreciate the tip about printing in draft for watercoloring. I hadn't thought of that, but I definitely want to try it. It's wonderful to see you on the Instant Gardener team!
