Hello Friends! Are you enjoying your Saturday? Quick post this evening...
I received a request for a sympathy card. Those are always difficult for me. But, my customer needed a card and she needed it quickly. Hmmm...what to do? What to do? Ahhh! I know...
I reached for Lovely as a Tree from Stampin' Up! and I used the faux hand painting technique. I started by carefully inking up the image and then using a damp paint brush, I smoothed out the stamp lines on the leaves...just a little. Then, I did the same thing for the trunk, except I used ink from the ink pad to fill it in. I used ink from the pad to create the ground underneath the tree and also to add a bit of blue for sky. The sentiment is from another Stampin' Up! set. I die cut frames using the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle dies and I used those to frame the focal. My card base is made from watercolor paper. I really wanted all of those whites to match and I felt that was the best way to accomplish that. I lined the inside with a piece of plain card stock. Nice and simple.
That's all I have to share with you today. Thanks for stopping by!
Blessings~

Oooh...so sorry you needed to make a sympathy card(even if it was for someone else...still so sad). But oh boy, did you ever make a beautiful one! It looks completely frame-worthy(once you take off the sentiment)! The tree is that gorgeous. Wow! Really, really beautiful. Great job, Barb! Hugs! Um...hope the flooding in CA hasn't affected you. I haven't seen much in the news recently, but heard that there was flooding that affected the 5. :( Hope you guys are okay!!
Oh, Barb, this is stunning, and it is too bad that it's for a sympathy card. Yes, those are hard ones. But this will surely bring comfort...just the sight of it. It's absolutely gorgeous, and I love your technique! This is one of those all-time favorite stamps that I shall never easily part with. Beautifully done, my friend! Hugs! (P. S. And after reading the comment above, I trust you are doing okay with all the flooding.)
I agree, sympathy cards are the most difficult to make. I've only made a few...I find them so difficult that I usually resort to store-bought cards. You, however, did a wonderful job of making one. It's very understated and yet so strikingly beautiful --I'm sure your customer appreciated it and felt it would be perfect {unfortunate circumstance, though}. I'm really loving how you do the faux hand painting technique --it truly looks hand painted. Your water-colored ground and sky look amazing, and the variegated leaves are gorgeous! Just lovely {"as a tree" -yuk yuk yuk- Sorry, I couldn't resist -lol}.
Hugs to you, Barb!
